FIFA announces that Russia have won the right to host the 2018 World Cup while Qatar will host the 2022 tournament. This means England’s hopes of hosting the 2018 World Cup finals were dashed, which disappoints David Beckham in particular and the whole England in general. David Beckham hoped that he could make a different to England’s bid for the 2018 World Cup in the final lobbying before the week’s vote.
England sent Prince William, David Cameron and David Beckham to deliver the county\’s bid presentation to FIFA. The speech was immediately applauded by FIFA president Sepp Blatter as “excellent and remarkable”. However, it was not meant to be the victory.
David Beckham expressed his disappointment that England failed in their bid to host the 2018 World Cup, “It\’s obviously disappointing coming away from Zurich without the 2018 World Cup but I think the whole bid team can be proud of what we put through and the presentation today was exceptional”.
“I\’m very disappointed, as are the rest of the team”, Prince William said on the failure of England, “We gave everything that we could. I\’m sorry for the fans back home that this happened.”
England’s bid team has promised FIFA “the most spectacular World Cup in history” ahead of the vote.
